UPDATE: Power restored, but Popkum area had 2 outages Thursday

UPDATE: Power has since been restored to the Popkum area east of Chilliwack, but there was a second power outage in the area after the early afternoon outage. People in a Popkum-area Facebook page reported that power was restored Thursday at about 3:55 p.m., and then went off again at about 4:30 p.m. Power was eventually restored late Thursday evening, with one person saying it was back on at about 9:20 p.m. At one point, BC Hydro estimated power would be back by 10:20 p.m.

AGASSIZ/CHEAM FN/POPKUM — Yet another power outage has been reported in the eastern Fraser Valley Thursday.

A substation fault is being blamed for a power outage that cut power to over 1,500 customers in Agassiz, Cheam First Nation, Rosedale and Popkum Thursday afternoon.

According to BC Hydro’s dashboard, 1,554 customers lost power at 1:32 p.m. due to a substation failure.

Crews have been assigned; they’re expected to arrive on scene by 3:30 p.m. this afternoon. BC Hydro’s website was last updated at 2:22 p.m. Thursday.

People in an Agassiz-area Facebook group say there had been a planned power outage in Agassiz from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today, June 26.

Earlier in the day, 174 customers in Fairfield Island (Chilliwack) lost power when a bird got stuck on wires, followed by an outage near downtown Hope that impacted 430 customers there due to equipment failure.
