Original story below:

CHILLIWACK — Nearly 175 customers in Fairfield Island are without power Thursday morning after a bird got stuck on power lines.

Chilliwack Fire Department crews were dispatched to 46346 Stratchcona Road for a wire issue at approximately 9:53 a.m.

Engine 1 told emergency dispatch at 10:04 a.m. that they were on scene and located a bird stuck on a wire. The circuit was out, firefighters said, but advised dispatch there were no hazards to the public and clarified it was a BC Hydro issue. Engine 1 was clear as of 10:04 a.m.

BC Hydro’s website states 174 customers lost power at 9:27 a.m., in the area east of Bonavista Street, south of Elliott Avenue, north of Hope River Road and west of Fairbanks Crescent. Crews have been assigned to repair the issue. BC Hydro says the cause is due to a “bird contacting our wires.”
