
Homeless encampment structure in Abbotsford goes up in flames
ABBOTSFORD — A spokesperson for the City of Abbotsford has confirmed that firefighters were called to a fire at a homeless encampment near Riverside Road Wednesday afternoon (June 25).
According to a statement from Aletta Vanderheyden, communications and public relations manager for the City of Abbotsford, firefighters from Abbotsford Fire Rescue Service were notified about a fire at a homeless camp near Riverside Road, north of Marshall Road, just before 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.
The structure fire happened just a few meters from a nearby railway in an area covered by foliage and trees.
Vanderheyden says crews arrived to a fully involved homeless structure and were able to put out the fire quickly.
