CHILLIWACK — Chilliwack Fire Department and Chilliwack RCMP personnel were dispatched for a two-vehicle crash on South Sumas Road Tuesday morning.

The call first came in at approximately 8:19 a.m. for the report of a rear ender.

The two vehicles involved were a Chevrolet pickup truck, which sustained significant front end damage, and an older model full-sized van, which had damage to its rear end.

Firefighters radioed dispatch to say the occupants of the vehicles would drive themselves to Chilliwack General Hospital to get checked out, meaning B.C. Ambulance did not need to attend.

RCMP were asked to attend; a constable arrived on scene at approximately 8:45 a.m.

A tow truck from Reliable Towing attended the scene.

Weather was not a factor as roads were not moist or slick at the time of the accident.

Chilliwack firefighters assisted with traffic control. At one point, a firefighter told a motorist with an “N” sticker on the back of their vehicle to slow down through the accident scene.

Engine 1 radioed dispatched at 9:06 a.m. to say they were clear of the scene. The scene was left in care of RCMP.

Public works was asked to attend to run a sweeper through the area due to glass on the road.
