Visible damage emerges from scene of police incident last Thursday at Agassiz home

AGASSIZ — Bullet holes and broken windows are now visible outside the Agassiz home where multiple police were called Thursday night (June 19).

According to a statement from the Independent Investigations Office of B.C., police arrived at the home and located an affected person, a woman who was reportedly in possession of a weapon. The woman then went inside the home.

An interaction occurred and shots were fired by officers, the IIO said. Members of the Emergency Response Team were deployed and arrived on scene, and police then entered the house and located the affected person who had suffered a gunshot injury.

The woman was arrested and then air lifted to hospital for assessment and treatment, the IIO said.

One ambulance with primary care paramedics, one ambulance with advanced care paramedics and an air ambulance with critical care paramedics responded to the scene; the patient was airlifted in serious condition.

An Agassiz-area resident sent multiple pictures to Fraser Valley Today showing damage to the home which is located on a main thoroughfare in town.

Meanwhile, two windows facing the road from the front of the home have been partially broken out. Glass shards and window debris appear on the driveway, while yellow caution tape appears at the base of the garage door. Two more windows on the side and rear of the home have been broken.

The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) is now investigating to see if the injury meets the threshold of serious harm as defined by the Police Act, as well as any connection between the serious harm and police actions.
