CHILLIWACK — Two vehicles had to be towed late Friday night after a motor vehicle incident near First Avenue and Charles Street in Chilliwack.

According to scanner traffic, the call first came in as a vehicle into a hydro pole at approximately 10:41 p.m.

Engine 1 arrived on scene at 10:43 p.m. at the intersection and located a 2-vehicle MVI, a vehicle into a hydro pole, and lines intact. Scanner traffic indicated RCMP were required for both vehicles to be towed.

Responding firefighters radioed dispatch to say all occupants were out of both vehicles. No one had to be transported to hospital due injuries, as patients refused medical treatment, according to scanner traffic.

A picture sent to Fraser Valley Today by David Seltenrich shows a smaller SUV and a Pontiac Sunfire as the two vehicles involved. Seltenrich, who lives nearby, said both air bags deployed in the Sunfire.

Chilliwack RCMP were not able to immediately attend the incident due to how busy they were, according to scanner traffic.

Although roads were a bit slick or moist from yesterday’s intermittent precipitation, it’s not immediately clear what caused the crash. One person speculated online that someone may have ignored a stop sign, but there’s no proof of that at this point.

Seltenrich said Engine 1 was finally cleared from the incident at about 11:47 p.m. after RCMP arrived and tow trucks removed both vehicles.
