ABBOTSFORD — Federal correctional staff at a Fraser Valley prison say an inmate serving a life sentence has died while in custody of apparent natural causes.
In a statement, CSC says Abraham Froesse-Friessen, an inmate at Pacific Institution and Regional Treatment Centre in Abbotsford, died on Saturday, June 14.
At the time of death, the inmate was 66 years old and had been serving a life sentence, which began on December 15, 2011.
According to a published report from the CBC, Froesse-Friessen was convicted for the second-degree murder of artist Bridie Fanning and received a 20-year sentence. CBC reported that the conviction of second-degree murder carried the automatic penalty of life in prison with no chance of parole for 10 years. Fanning, a 47-year-old woman, died of a gunshot wound.
