MAPLE RIDGE — Conservation officers in B.C. say a black bear has been put down after attacking a Maple Ridge woman in her backyard.

According to a statement, the B.C. Conservation Officer Service says the victim was swiped on the side of the head by the bear and is being treated in hospital.

COS personnel say RCMP officers destroyed the suspected offending bear – a sow with two cubs. The cubs were not captured.

COS staff have been on scene looking for cubs since early this morning, conducting vehicle and foot patrols.
