Langley woman loses livestock, livelihood in barn shop arson
LANGLEY – An online fundraiser has been launched for a Langley woman who lost her pigs, sheep, cows, chickens, cats and horses in a barn fire last week that was allegedly set by a live-in farmhand.
Mounties in Langley say a Langley man has been arrested on charges that he allegedly set fire to a barn in the 20500 block of 102B Avenue last Friday, June 6. First responders located a barn that was fully engulfed. Police conducted an extensive investigation and determined there were grounds to believe the fire had been set deliberately. Additionally, while officers conducted several witnesses’ interviews and gathered key evidence, it was determined an alleged assault had also occurred during the incident. Christopher Gerald William England, a Langley resident, was arrested on Saturday, June 7.
According to the text of a GoFundMe, Kelly Eaglestone has been identified as the Langley resident who lost everything in that fire. She was the last living relative on a family farm that has been operating in Langley for over 50 years. In a matter of hours, she lost all her livestock to the fire.
“It wasn’t just a barn. It wasn’t just a fire,” Adam Boyd wrote in the GoFundMe. “It was her livelihood. Her animals. Her legacy.”
