New temperature records set in 12 B.C. communities Sunday, including Abbotsford
If you thought it was an exceptionally hot Sunday (June 8) you would be correct as Environment Canada says new daily temperature records were set in a dozen B.C. communities.
The hottest spot in B.C. went to Lytton, where the mercury topped out at 39.3 C, breaking the old daily record of 38.5 which was also set in 2023. Records in Lytton go back to 1921.
New record highs were also set in Clinton (31.6 C), Princeton (35.8 C), and Williams Lake (31.4 C). While most previous records were set in 2023, Environment Canada says both Abbotsford (31 C) and Pitt Meadows (32.3 C) eclipsed temperature records that dated back to 1955 and 1903 respectively.
Temperatures have been well above normal for the past several days across southern B.C. The BC Wildfire Service is urging vigilance.
