MISSION — Mission RCMP’s latest round-up of community stories features a number of impaired drivers stopped last week.

On May 29 at around 1 p.m., first responders attended to a vehicle rollover at the intersection of Lougheed Highway and the Hayward Connector. Police found a blue 1979 Corvette damaged in a ditch– with no driver on scene.

“He was located shortly afterwards at a nearby gas station,” wrote Mission RCMP. “The driver stated that he mistakenly gave a little too much throttle while making the left turn, however, he subsequently failed two roadside breath tests.”

The Maple Ridge man received a 90-day driving prohibition, and his Corvette has been seized for one month.

Two other drivers received the same prohibitions last week. On the afternoon that same day, a red Dodge Caliber had been seen swerving on Cedar Street. Mission RCMP traffic officers pulled the driver over and tried to conduct roadside testing for drug impairment, which he refused. A certified Drug Recognition Expert then confirmed signs that the man was on drugs, leading to the prohibition.

A couple days prior, on May 27, an officer stopped a vehicle for speeding in the Silverdale area and found the driver showing signs of alcohol impairment. The 44-year-old Maple Ridge man failed two screening tests and received a 30-day impound along with the prohibition.

Police in Mission responded to a total of 370 calls for service between May 26 and June 1.
