MISSION — The City of Mission says commercial trucks are being rerouted away from its downtown area in a move the city’s mayor calls a “win for both commerce and community.”

According to a statement from the municipality, commercial trucks will be diverted moving forward now that the Ministry of Transportation and Transit’s truck rerouting project achieved completion this past Tuesday, June 3.

To accommodate this change, the intersections at Highway 7 and Murray Street, and Glasgow Avenue and Horne Street have been upgraded to accommodate commercial vehicles headed for highway 7 or 11.

“Rerouting truck traffic out of our downtown is a win for both commerce and community,” said Mayor Paul Horn. “After decades of talk, we’re finally making our downtown a safe space for conversation, coffee, and connection – and a little casual shopping – right where they belong, in the heart of Mission.”
