Chilliwack-area girls invited to learn to play hockey in June

CHILLIWACK — The coaches and supporters behind Chilliwack Minor Hockey Association are eager to get more girls on the ice and have them experience Canada’s national pastime.

During the month of June, they’re offering a number of girls-only “Try Hockey” sessions at the Sardis Sports Complex. These activities are open to all ages and are especially great for any girl who’s never played before and wants to learn to play hockey.

According to information sent to Fraser Valley Today, the events are all about no pressure and no commitment. Instead, they’re really just a chance for girls to get on the ice, meet some great people, interact with coaches and give it a try.

Local coaches from the Chilliwack Minor Hockey Association will be on the ice each Saturday this month, spanning June 7, 14, 21 and 28. There’s gear available to borrow for those who need it.

Chilliwack resident Dale Johnson says anyone considering the female program should know that coaches are ready to invest in their development, both on and off the ice, and show them what it means to show up for themselves and each other.

“I’m so excited to be a part of the growth of the program,” Johnson said.

Families are welcome to come check it out and ask questions.

If you or someone you know has a daughter who’s been curious about hockey, this is a great place to start.

The drop-in sessions will be held starting with an arrival time of 1 p.m., followed by ice time from 1:45 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. at Sardis Sports rink 2.
