Fraser Valley housing sales rise double digits as single-family home prices drop
FRASER VALLEY — Home sales throughout the Fraser Valley rebounded in May with a double-digit increase compared to April, while the benchmark price for single-family homes actually dropped over one per cent.
Representing a region stretching from Abbotsford to White Rock, the Fraser Valley Real Estate Board says it recorded 1,183 sales in May on its Multiple Listing Service (MLS), a 13 per cent increase over April.
On a long-term basis, though, FVREB statistics reveal a 22 per cent drop from May 2024 and a 36 per cent dip compared to the 10-year seasonal average. Inventory numbers continue to grow as active listings were up six per cent in May.
“High inventory in the Fraser Valley is giving buyers more choice, but it also means sellers are facing more competition,” said Tore Jacobsen, chair of the Fraser Valley Real Estate Board. “We’re seeing that homes priced appropriately for today’s market are selling, while sellers who aren’t in a rush are choosing to hold off or stand firm on pricing and wait for more favourable conditions.”
