CHILLIWACK — A longtime Chilliwack buffet serving diners on Luckakuck Way since 1998 has been sold to new ownership who don’t plan to operate the restaurant any longer.

Vancouver realtor Stella Yiu told Fraser Valley Today Sunday night that Mandarin Garden Buffet and the property at 45295 Luckakuck Way have an accepted offer.

The 225-seat restaurant and property have been sold for $5 million, Yiu told Fraser Valley Today via text message. She also said the buyer bought it for their own use and will not be doing a restaurant business moving forward.

As first reported by Fraser Valley Today last year, Mandarin Garden Buffet hit the market in August 2024 with an asking price of $780,000 for the freestanding 6,776-square foot restaurant located near McDonald’s and The Brick.

If buyers purchased the land, the present lease would have been $6,000/month with an expiration date of December 14, 2028, plus a renewal term of five years.

The sellers behind the restaurant had been looking to retire, Yiu told Fraser Valley Today in August 2024.

The commercial lot itself, not the restaurant, is 39,771 square feet in size on a 0.91-acre lot boasting Highway 1 exposure. It had an asking price of $5,250,000. BC Assessment has valued the commercial property with the restaurant at $3.1 million. The restaurant was built in 1986.

It’s not clear when Mandarin Garden will cease operations. It offered both dine-in and take-out food six days a week. The location houses a banquet room designed for large parties. As of March 2024, the buffet was available for both lunch and dinner, with separate prices for both meal times (lunch is $18.95 plus GST, dinner is $24.95 plus GST).
