SURREY — A Burnaby man is now facing charges nearly three years after the murder of 47-year-old Frank James.

On August 4, 2022, Surrey RCMP and BC Emergency Health Services responded to a home at 188 Street and 76 Ave in Surrey. First responders found James with life-threatening injuries, and despite life-saving measures, he did not survive.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) took charge of the investigation, and on May 23 this year, 42-year-old Nelson Adam Short was arrested in Burnaby for his alleged involvement in the murder.

B.C. prosecutors laid a charge of second-degree murder the next day. He has since been detained by judicial authorities and appeared in court again on Thursday, May 29.

“Although an arrest has been made, investigators believe there were others involved,” wrote IHIT. “Homicide investigators are looking to speak to additional witnesses who may have information on what happened to Frank James.”

Anyone with information on the death of Frank James is asked to contact IHIT at 1-877-551-4448 (IHIT) or ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.

No additional information will be released as court proceedings are underway.
