LANGLEY — Fraser Valley schools may soon be able to welcome more students as the B.C. government builds new classrooms across the province.

Abbotsford Middle School is set to receive eight prefabricated classrooms, which will add 200 seats to the local school district. The Langley School District is due to receive hundreds more– with 300 new high-school seats and roughly 350 elementary spaces, including a new school in Latimer.

“Capital projects, such as the addition at Langley Secondary school, ongoing modular expansions, and the new site acquisition in the southwest Latimer neighbourhood, are critical steps in helping to relieve the enrolment pressures in our fast-growing school district,” said Candy Ashdown, chair of the Langley school board. “We know our students, staff and families will benefit now and in the future.”

The Province has invested roughly $340 million into dozens of new K-12 classrooms since the beginning of 2025. To keep up with the fast-growing demand, the government has been using prefabricated classrooms and asking school districts to repeat existing school designs.

“I’ve seen firsthand the difference that new schools and modern classrooms make for students and their communities,” said Minister of Education and Child Care Lisa Beare. “With these record investments, that will only continue to grow, fostering success and opportunities for generations to come.”

Estimated completion for most projects is in Fall 2025, although Abbotsford Middle may not be ready for occupancy until September 2026. Enrollment throughout the Abbotsford School District could increase by more than 130 students in the next school year, according to a March 2025 budget meeting.
