CHILLIWACK — Chilliwack firefighters and B.C. Ambulance Service paramedics were called to the 51000 block of Old Yale Road in Rosedale Thursday afternoon for an incident involving a young child.

According to scanner traffic, first responders received a call at approximately 4:37 p.m. Thursday (May 29) about a possible drowning and possible cardiac arrest. Three fire engines from Halls 1 (Cheam Avenue), 2 (Rosedale) and 4 (South Sumas) were paged.

First responders learned from emergency dispatch that the call involved a 1-year-old child; the toddler’s gender was not revealed.

A helicopter was paged and had an expected time of arrival of 25-30 minutes, at 5:15 p.m.

The landing zone was initially designated for Rosedale Park at 51535 Old Yale Road.

The landing zone and helicopter were later canceled once paramedics radioed dispatch to say the patient would be transported to an area hospital via ground ambulance.
