CHILLIWACK — Chilliwack RCMP and several Chilliwack Fire Department engines were dispatched Monday night after a vehicle fire happened at a car lot on Yale Road near Rona and Chilliwack Ford.

The fire broke out sometime after 10:45 p.m. Monday night. Video obtained by Fraser Valley Today shows a fire damaging what appears to be a passenger vehicle parked in the back of the used car dealership. Other vehicles are parked relatively close to the burning car, meaning additional vehicles could have been damaged by the car fire.

According to scanner traffic, Chilliwack firefighters radioed dispatch at 11:07 p.m. Monday night to say the fire had been extinguished and fire crews were in overhaul. They also told dispatch that RCMP would make contact with a person who reported the incident. The scene was left in care of RCMP.

Video of the fire was taken by a young adult male on a scooter who was hanging out in the parking lot of the Petro Canada at Yale Road and Airport Road. He said he was the one who phoned authorities to report the fire, and said there was another vehicle close to the burning car could have been damaged by the fire. He said there was a car with an open door in the car lot around the time of the fire.
Fraser Valley Today has reached out to the Chilliwack RCMP detachment and Chilliwack Fire Department seeking comment on the incident.
