HEMLOCK VALLEY — The Agassiz RCMP detachment says it’s investigating an incident in which a man reported being attacked by two pit bulls in Hemlock Valley over the weekend.

A social media post from the victim, a middle-aged adult male who lives in Agassiz, says he received over 50 stitches after being attacked by two pit bulls near the bottom of Hemlock Valley Road, near Sasquatch Mountain Resort, on Sunday, May 11.

“Thank you all for your good thoughts and prayers for my tragic experience with being attacked by two pit bulls. I got over 50 stitches and mostly on my left arm and a couple on my right arm,” said the victim, who Fraser Valley Today is not identifying. “The dog owners left me laying in the bush at bottom of Hemlock Road.”

The victim says 9-1-1 emergency dispatchers kept him on the phone until B.C. Ambulance Services paramedics arrived. Fortunately, he had cell phone reception in the traumatic aftermath.

“My flesh was falling out of my arm. Felt like I wanted to faint lots, ears were ringing hard, dizzy, vacuous, shaking, very cold but sweating – this carried on in the ER as well,” he said. “Such a horrible experience and never want this to happen to anyone.”

The victim said lots of vehicles drove by him but didn’t realize he was in the bush by the road, which may explain why no one saw him in what was described as tall grass. The owners of the dogs did not stay and have not been located as of Wednesday morning.

One person wrote on Facebook: “I’m so disgusted that the dog owners just left him alone on the side of the road bleeding so badly, and then our sister had a hard time finding him in the bushes.”

The victim expressed gratitude to the person who found him and to the healthcare workers who treated him.

“Boyd found me though. The paramedics, doctor, and nurses were really good to me,” the man stated. “Thank you all for the prayers, good thoughts and concern.”

He has since been released from hospital and has begun what could be a long journey of healing from the traumatic event.

Agassiz RCMP offered the following statement in response to a media inquiry from Fraser Valley Today: “This incident remains under investigation. If anyone has information, they are asked to contact the Agassiz RCMP.”
