Mission mayor warns of disruptive behaviour at area lakes ahead of May long weekend
MISSION — As the May long weekend approaches, Mission Mayor Paul Horn says disruptive behaviour has increased in recent years at two popular recreational sites in the Mission area.
According to a statement from the City of Mission Tuesday (May 13), the municipality is bracing for May long weekend crowds by reminding visitors to park in designated areas if they plan to visit Hayward Lake or the Stave West Forest & Recreation Area, to help ensure everyone can safely enjoy the area. Due to the ongoing closure of the Stave Lake boat launch, the city says boaters looking to hit the water should look for sites outside of Mission to avert disappointment.
“Stave Falls residents have always welcomed visitors to the Hayward and Stave West Forest and Recreation Area, but disruptive behavior—illegal parking, noise, and trespassing—has increased in recent years,” said Mayor Horn. “So, with high traffic expected this May long weekend, we ask everyone to respect the community.”
