CHILLIWACK — A Chilliwack RCMP spokesperson says impairment was not a factor in a motor vehicle incident that led to a power outage affecting over 1,900 customers in Chilliwack Saturday night.

Corporal Teresa Parsons tells Fraser Valley Today in an email that RCMP members did attend a single vehicle collision on First Avenue Saturday night. She adds there is no indication on their police report the driver tried to flee the scene.

Corporal Parsons says there was no indication of impairment by drugs or alcohol, and the driver, who was the sole occupant, was not seriously injured.

The driver was issued a violation ticket.

The vehicle in question, a Ford, reportedly rolled over and struck a hydro pole, before landing upside down in a bush. After the crash, BC Hydro reported a power outage on its website stating 1,924 customers lost power east of downtown Chilliwack.

Chilliwack firefighters remained on scene for well over an hour after the crash.
