Over $40K raised at Healthcare Heroes slo-pitch tournament in Abbotsford

ABBOTSFORD — A record number of slo-pitch teams hit a home run for Fraser Valley hospitals, raising $42,000 at the annual Healthcare Heroes Charity Tournament.

Twenty-three teams competed to raise money for local hospitals. The tournament, hosted by the Fraser Valley Health Care Foundation (FVCHF), was held at Exhibition Park during the Easter long weekend.

“We extend our gratitude to the 23 teams that participated as well as tournament coordinators, Teri Vander Wyk, Lisa Dick, Don Fitzgerald, and Troy Bernier, our sponsors, umpires, volunteers and spectators who helped to make this tournament such a success,” said Leslie Gmur, fund development coordinator at FVHCF.

Winning teams included:

  • A Division: 1st place – Lights Out, with Gorilla Gang as runners-up
  • B Division: 1st place – Ragrets, with Skittled as runners-up and honourable mentions go to the Growlers
  • C Division: 1st place – Balls & Dolls, with Smoking Jays as runners-up

“This year’s event exceeded our expectation and we are looking forward to Healthcare Heroes Slo-Pitch Tournament in 2026.”

Established in 2000, the FVHCF builds partnerships with individuals, organizations, and businesses to enhance hospitals throughout the Fraser Valley Regional Hospital District, including Chilliwack General, Abbotsford Regional, Mission Memorial, and Fraser Canyon Hospital.
