3 injured after Sunday morning crash on Highway 7 near Maple Ridge, Mission

UPDATE 10:15 A.M. MONDAY: Mounties in Mission have confirmed four people were taken to hospital Sunday morning after a head-on crash on Highway 7 in Mission, including a 63-year-old Mission woman in critical condition.

According to a statement from Mission RCMP spokesperson Corporal Harrison Mohr, first responders were called for the report of a collision shortly before 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 11, after two vehicles collided on Lougheed Highway east of 287 Street. Police say a grey 2024 Mazda SUV had been driving eastbound on the highway along the Stave River Bridge, when a westbound vehicle – a red 2002 Ford Focus hatchback – reportedly lost control and entered the oncoming lanes, striking the grey Mazda head-on.

The driver and passenger of the Mazda, and the driver of the Ford, were all transported hospital with various injuries. The passenger of the Ford – a 63-year-old woman from Mission – was taken to hospital in critical condition.

MISSION — Three people are in hospital after a serious collision on Lougheed Highway Sunday morning, May 11.

At 9:20 a.m., BCEHS received a call regarding a motor vehicle incident near 287th Street and Highway 7 in the Mission area. Provincial Health Services Authority spokesperson Peter Darbyshire confirmed that paramedics from four ambulances cared for and took three patients to hospital.

Two are now stable, while one remains in critical condition.

DriveBC shared a post at around 11:30 a.m. saying that the eastbound lane and westbound left lane remain closed at 287 Street due to a vehicle incident. Drivers are urged to watch for traffic control and use an alternate route. The warning persists on the DriveBC website as of 12:02 p.m.
