Youth, 17, deceased after hiking accident near Lions Bay: Sea to Sky RCMP
LIONS BAY — Mounties with the Sea to Sky detachment in Squamish say a 17-year-old has died after a hiking accident near Lions Bay over the weekend.
According to a statement from RCMP Constable Kelly Wu, Sea to Sky RCMP-Squamish and North Shore and Lions Bay Search and Rescue were dispatched for the report of two lost hikers on Sunday afternoon, May 4. Police were notified Sunday afternoon at 3:34 p.m. that two hikers who had been separated and were lost in the Lions Bay area. It was reported that one of the hikers had fallen down a gully and the other had left the trail to try to locate their friend.
Police say North Shore Search and Rescue successfully located and extracted one of the hikers.
The second hiker who had fallen was later located unresponsive and transported to hospital. Despite life saving efforts the 17-year-old youth did not survive.
