Dangerous offender charged with DTES robbery in Vancouver – while he was on statutory release
VANCOUVER — Police in Vancouver say a dangerous offender who was on statutory release from prison has been charged with robbery in the Downtown Eastside.
Police say 36-year-old Tyler Gordon Strathdee was the subject of a public warning by Vancouver Police in December 2024 when he had gained statutory release and began living at a halfway house in Vancouver. At the time, VPD believed Strathdee constituted a significant risk of danger to the community and was considered high risk to commit further sexual and physical violence.
Confirming their suspicion, a VPD investigation has led to a new criminal charge against Strathdee. On April 28, the B.C. Prosecution Service approved one count of robbery stemming from an incident that happened in Vancouver’s DTES on February 23.
Strathdee’s statutory release was suspended in February, and he is currently in custody, police say.
