Lougheed Highway collision shuts down Deroche Bridge, cuts power to thousands

MISSION — Over 4,300 customers lost power after a motor vehicle incident on Deroche Bridge, between Athey Road and Taylor Road, on Saturday, May 3.

At roughly 7:15 a.m., scanners said a vehicle hit a pole, causing power lines to go down across Highway 7. BC Hydro reported that a crew will be heading to an outage affecting 4,375 customers in Abbotsford, Chilliwack, Mission and nearby areas.

As of 9 a.m., the number of affected customers decreased to 1,602.

The incident also closed the highway in east and westbound directions, with no detours.
