Chilliwack family appeals for support after losing home in late April fire

May 3, 2025 | 11:45 AM

CHILLIWACK — Once the smoke cleared at this single structure in the Fairfield Island area, the Tawileh family found they were left without a home.

Just before 4 a.m. on April 27, a fast-moving fire went through their house in the 10000 block of Fairbanks Crescent. Mohammad Tawileh, his wife, and their children quickly escaped, but they did lose all of their belongings, and the home was severely damaged.

Emergency Support Services were present at the scene to help the displaced residents. A GoFundMe page has now been set up to help them rebuild.

“They are now displaced, without a home, and facing an uncertain future,” the campaign reads. “This is a family who has always worked hard since coming to Canada a few years ago. Now, they need our help.”

Support will go towards the following:

  • Secure safe and stable housing,
  • Replace basic necessities, such as clothing, food, furniture, school supplies, etc.
  • Cover essential expenses until the family gets back on their feet.
