RCMP respond to two high-risk incidents in Mission

Apr 29, 2025 | 1:10 PM

MISSION — Mission RCMP dealt with a pair of high-risk calls Sunday (Apr. 27), including a standoff involving a loaded compound bow and a domestic assault case.

Mounties were first called around 2:30 p.m. to a rural property on Silverdale Avenue where a dispute between neighbours escalated to one man pointing a loaded compound bow at another.

Police say the 53-year-old suspect briefly came outside when officers arrived, but then retreated inside. Due to concerns about the weapon and the man’s behaviour, the Lower Mainland Integrated Emergency Response Team was called in along with a crisis negotiator.

An hour later the suspect surrendered peacefully. A search warrant was executed later and several charges were recommended, including possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and breaching conditions from a previous weapons-related incident in June 2024.

Later that evening around 6 p.m., officers were called to the 7300 block of Wren Street after a report of a domestic assault. A 33-year-old man briefly appeared from inside the home but returned inside. He was brandishing a large kitchen knife.

Police say the man barricaded himself inside, prompting another call to the emergency response team and a crisis negotiator. After 90 minutes, the suspect emerged from the residence and surrendered. Charges, including assault and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose have been recommended.

Police are thanking the public for their patience around the incidents. Mission RCMP also praised the emergency response team for its work, saying their expertise was critical in ensuring both incidents ended without injuries.
