ABBOTSFORD — The City of Abbotsford has submitted an application to the Agricultural Land Commission as it considers the creation of a new sports and recreation park in the city’s UDistrict neighbourhood.

The proposed site is located near King and McKenzie Roads. Mayor Ross Siemens says the city has conditionally acquired the property, pending approval from the ALC.

“As our community continues to grow, Abbotsford City Council recognizes there is an ever-increasing need for additional recreational, sports, and park amenities,” Siemens said in a news release. “This is a significant step forward in our long-term commitment to continually enhancing the quality of life for our residents.”

As part of the application, the city has offered to add approximately 50 acres of city-owned land along LeFeuvre Road into the Agricultural Land Reserve.

The City says the proposed development aligns with several long-term strategies, including the Sport Field and Sport Court Strategy, the Arena Services and Facilities Strategy, and the Aquatics Services and Facilities Strategy.

If approved, the city plans to transform the site into a hub for local residents and community sports groups, with a goal of fostering a healthy and active population.
