VANCOUVER — Vancouver Police say multiple people are dead after a person drove his car through a street festival in the city’s Eastside Saturday evening (Apr. 26).

Police say in a social media post that the driver has been taken into custody.

“A number of people have been killed and multiple others are injured after a driver drove into a crowd at a street festival at E. 41st Avenue and Fraser shortly after 8 p.m. tonight. The driver is in custody. We will provide more information as the investigation unfolds,” VPD wrote on X/Twitter.

The Filipino community’s Lapu Lapu Day festival was underway at the time in the South Vancouver neighbourhood.

Video posted on social media showed victims and debris strewn across a long stretch of road, with at least seven people lying immobile on the ground.
