BC Transit seeking input on new Highway 7 bus service between Mission and Agassiz

MISSION — BC Transit is asking for your input on a new bus route that could cut ride times down by up to 75 per cent from Agassiz to Mission.

Using transit between the two communities currently requires taking three to four buses, with a trip time of around four hours. The proposed route between downtown Agassiz and downtown Mission will travel along Highway 7, with a projected cycle time of 60 minutes – about the same as just hopping into a car and driving yourself.

“This new service will connect people along the Highway 7 corridor to education, recreation and employment opportunities, and will provide an alternative to vehicle travel,” said BC Transit. “The aim is to launch this new service in January 2026, pending Provincial funding availability.”

A public survey is now online, and paper copies will be available at the Kent Rec Centre, Kent municipal office, Mission Leisure Centre, Village of Harrison Hot Springs office, Welton Common in Mission and Leq’á:mel First Nation.

Open houses have also been scheduled for in-person engagement:

  • May 5, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Deroche Community Hall
  • May 6, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Harrison Mills Community Hall
  • May 7, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Kent Community Recreation and Cultural Centre

BC Transit and the Fraser Valley Regional District will continue to work with local stakeholders and the Ministry of Transportation and Transit to find out where future stops may be added.
