Opening of new Chilliwack elementary school pushed back a year
CHILLIWACK — A spokesperson for the Chilliwack School District says SD33 has revised its projected opening date for the new elementary school in Rosedale.
According to a statement from spokesperson Amy Dhanjal, communications manager for SD33, bids for the construction of the new East Side Elementary School on McGrath Road in Rosedale closed in early March 2025, and the project was awarded to Double V Construction Ltd.
Construction is expected to be completed by December 2026. While the school was originally projected to open in September 2026, Dhanjal says the complexity of building on a property partially located in the Agricultural Land Reserve and within a flood plain added additional time to the early planning stages. The new school is now anticipated to open in September 2027.
The design for the new east side elementary includes one level of parking and three levels of school space. Adding underground parking raises the future school to the required height above the flood plain and meets City parking bylaw requirements.
