1 dead in Langley fire Friday morning, homicide investigators deployed
LANGLEY — Investigators are now looking into a suspicious death Friday morning, April 18, at a mixed-use building in Langley.
At around 7:24 am, Langley RCMP received a report of a structure fire located in the 20500 block of 56 Avenue. Once the fire was out, one person was found dead inside the apartment on the second floor.
“At this early stage of the investigation, it is unknown how the individual died, and their death is being treated as suspicious until deemed otherwise,” said Sergeant Zynal Sharoom of the Langley RCMP. “The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has since assumed conduct of the investigation.”
IHIT is working in partnership with the Langley RCMP, fire investigators and the BC Coroners Service to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. Investigators are completing priority tasks, which include canvassing the neighbourhood for witnesses and video surveillance.
