CHILLIWACK — Advance voting for the 2025 federal election gets underway this long weekend.

Canadians who are at least 18 years old can vote at their assigned polling station anytime from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on April 17, 18, 19 or 20.

Where to vote

There are two ways to know where to advance vote.

Those who are registered ahead of time should have received a voter information card in the mail by April 11. It will tell you your assigned polling station for advance and election day voting.

Other than that, you can find your advance voting location by using the voter information service online or by calling Elections Canada.

Identification

Elections Canada has three options to verify a federal election voter.

The first option is to show a piece of government photo identification. That can be a driver’s license.

The second option is to show two pieces of identification. Both must have your name, and at least one must have your current address.

The third option is to declare your identity and address in writing and have someone assigned to your polling station vouch for you.

Peak voting times

There may be certain times of day when lines could be shorter.

Elections Canada says the peak voting time on advance polling days is usually from 10 a.m. to noon.

The time between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. is also a popular time for people to vote, according to an Elections Canada chart.

Other ways to vote

There are three other ways for Canadians to vote.

Citizens can vote in person at any point at any Elections Canada office.

Voters can submit their ballot by mail by applying online or in person at any Elections Canada office.

The deadline for both in-person early voting and mail-in voting is 6 p.m. on April 22.

Voters can find where their Elections Canada office is located online or by calling.

Finally, voters can also submit their ballot on election day, April 28.
