Hit-and-run collision in the Fraser Valley claims life of 6-year-old girl
FRASER VALLEY — Authorities in Surrey say a motorist has been arrested for their alleged role in a late afternoon hit-and-run collision Sunday afternoon that claimed the life of a 6-year-old girl.
According to a news release from SPS Staff Sgt. Lindsey Houghton, the RCMP Surrey Police Operations Support Unit’s Criminal Collision Investigation Team (SPOSU CCIT), and ICARS personnel are investigating a crash that killed a child and injured two other youth in Surrey’s Fraser Heights neighbourhood.
Police received reports of three young pedestrians being struck by a vehicle in the intersection of 164 Street and 108 Avenue, Surrey, at about 4:11 p.m. on Sunday, Apr. 13. The driver that struck the children did not remain at the scene, police say. Surrey Fire Service firefighters and BCEHS paramedics attended the scene and despite life-saving medical interventions, the six-year-old girl died.
A seven-year-old girl sustained upper body injuries, and a 16-year-old boy sustained injuries to his leg and torso. Both were transported to hospital for further evaluation and treatment and neither child’s injuries are thought to be life-threatening at this time.
