Police in Surrey, B.C., searching for non-verbal six-year-old missing since Saturday

SURREY — Police in Surrey, B.C., are scouring the city today in search of a non-verbal six-year-old boy who has been missing since Saturday afternoon.

The Surrey Police Service says dozens of search and rescue volunteers are helping with the search, adding police dogs and a helicopter have also been deployed.

Police say the boy was last seen sometime between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Saturday in the area of Northview Park.

The missing child is described as having black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a blue jacket, grey pants, and green shoes.

Surrey Police Service spokesman Lindsey Houghton says in addition to the police resources, dozens of volunteers from different search and rescue societies across the Lower Mainland are currently searching for the child, with several skipping sleep to hunt for the boy through the night.

Houghton says police are now appealing to the public for help.

South Fraser Search and Rescue, which is supporting the search, has created a public map on their Facebook account to allow members of the public to submit tips to guide their search.
