UFV celebrates 50th anniversary with alumni and friends
CHILLIWACK — The University of the Fraser Valley (UFV) wrapped up its golden jubilee celebrations last week by looking back at the community built by its alumni and their friends.
More than 50,000 students have graduated from the post-secondary institution since it opened in 1974. UFV President Dr. Joanne MacLean was among those who spoke at an alumni reception on Friday, April 4.
“For half a century, UFV has been a hub for research, innovation, arts, and culture,” she said. “It’s helped build our community, preparing architects, tradespeople, healthcare professionals and more for success in their fields. Ask a local nurse, teacher, mechanic or business owner where they got their education. The answer is almost always UFV.”
The Alumni & Friends Weekend continued Saturday. In the Chilliwack campus, festivities included musical performances and a documentary screening that showcased 20 years of CIVL campus radio. Over at Abbotsford, there were a range of exhibits, lectures and a hockey battle between the current and former students of the La:lem te Baker residence.
