ABBOTSFORD —A community initiative is inviting Abbotsford residents to protect their data and get rid of electronic waste– without risking the environment.

On Saturday, April 26, the Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) and Abbotsford Police Department are hosting its annual free electronics recycling and data security event at Seven Oaks Shopping Centre from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

“This event is an opportunity for residents to protect their data, reduce e-waste, and promote community safety,” said Bojan Paduh, Founder of the Electronic Recycling Association. “We’re proud to once again work alongside the Abbotsford Police Department and bring added value through Project 529.”

Services provided at the event include:

  • Electronics recycling: Items will be refurbished for donation or responsibly recycled
  • On-site hard drive shredding: Items will go through the ERA’s industrial shredder to protect personal data
  • Bicycle registration: A new service offered this year to prevent bike theft, including a tamper-resistant ID sticker that aids in theft prevention and recovery.

Accepted electronics range from flat screen monitors and keyboards to USBs and cables.

The event is located at 32900 South Fraser Way, #201. More information about the ERA’s work is available on its website.
