CHILLIWACK — Crews were on scene this morning (Apr. 11) to fight a massive fire that engulfed a two-storey home at the 8900 block of Nowell Street in Chilliwack.

Roughly 35 firefighters from four halls were dispatched at around 3:15 a.m.

“Crews quickly established a defensive attack on the fire, utilizing several large and small diameter hose streams to contain the fire,” said the Chiliwack Fire Department in a release. “Fire crews were able to prevent the spread of the fire to nearby structures, despite being challenged by intense heat and a large volume of fire.”

A nearby resident said the house was unoccupied and for sale. An over two-month-old listing for the address showed solid wood timber lining its walls and floors.

Soon after the fire was extinguished, crews tore the building down due to concerns about its structural stability.

No one was injured in the fire.

Chilliwack Fire Department officials are now investigating the incident. Anyone with information about this fire is asked to call the RCMP at 604-792-4611 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or online.
