New driver pays the price for blazing through Abbotsford construction zone
ABBOTSFORD — A 19-year-old driver with a class 7 license will pay a steep price after being caught driving roughly 70 km/h above a posted construction zone speed limit on Wednesday.
Police in Abbotsford say that same driver is now facing serious consequences for being clocked at 150 km/h in an 80 km/h construction on Highway 1 through Abbotsford. Those penalties include an excessive speeding ticket and a seven-day vehicle impoundment.
The incident is one of 132 this year in which AbbyPD officers have impounded vehicles for excessive speeding.
“Remember, just because you don’t see us on the road doesn’t mean we’re not there. Plainclothes officers are deployed daily in Abbotsford for various functions, including traffic enforcement, property crime, and drug investigations,” AbbyPD said, adding that the driver’s actions were “completely unacceptable.”
