Int’l cybercrime investigation results in arrest of Fraser Valley resident
FRASER VALLEY — Federal investigators with the RCMP Pacific Region in B.C. have arrested a Fraser Valley resident for their role in operating a network of thousands of infected computers capable of delivering malware.
According to a statement from RCMP Sgt. Tammy Lobb with Federal Policing in Surrey, the arrest of a Surrey resident in March 2025 was made as part of a joint international investigation into a transnational network of cybercriminals.
This arrest was conducted as part of Operation Endgame. Sgt. Lobby says Operation Endgame is an international joint force targeting online malware loaders. CIT-V is supported in Operation Endgame by the National Cybercrime Coordination Centre (NC3) and by Europol. Vancouver is one of five national level RCMP cybercrime teams working together to combat online crime in Canada. There are CIT located in Edmonton, Ottawa, Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver.
European cybercrime investigators say that after the massive botnet takedown codenamed Operation Endgame in May 2024, which shut down the biggest malware droppers, including IcedID, SystemBC, Pikabot, Smokeloader and Bumblebee, law enforcement agencies across North America and Europe dealt another blow to the malware ecosystem in early 2025.
