AbbyPD receives ‘multiple’ 911 calls over reported explosion in east Abbotsford

ABBOTSFORD — Police in Abbotsford say they received multiple 911 calls Thursday morning (Apr. 10) about an explosion in the eastern part of Abbotsford.

According to a statement sent to Fraser Valley Today, AbbyPD Sgt. Paul Walker says first responders attended to the area and confirmed the source of the explosion to be blasting that occurred at one of the Sumas Mountain gravel pits.

No injuries and no property damage were reported, Sgt. Walker said.

People on Facebook reported hearing the explosion as far away as Mission and parts of Deroche.

One Facebook commenter said, “It was bizarre. The whole house shook and the sound was SO loud – it also felt like a sonic boom.”
