ABBOTSFORD — Police in Abbotsford say they’ve arrested a 36-year-old man who allegedly engaged in dangerous driving to the point they deployed a spike belt Tuesday night.

AbbyPD says its patrol officers “did an excellent job” last night in locating and stopping a dangerous driver involved in property crime. Police utilized a spike belt to puncture three vehicle tires and brought the vehicle, which appears to be a Ford pickup truck, to a safe stop.

AbbyPD Sgt. Paul Walker said the incident started in rural west Abbotsford. The spike belt component occurred at Lefeuvre Road and Fraser Highway.

The 36-year-old man, who was not identified, has an extensive criminal history and was found to have breached his court-ordered conditions and driving while prohibited. He is currently awaiting a court appearance Wednesday morning.

“AbbyPD officers remain dedicated to proactively locating and suppressing crime in Abbotsford,” AbbyPD said. “Through intelligence-led policing and teamwork, we strive to make Abbotsford the safest city in BC.”
