ABBOTSFORD — The Abbotsford Police Department says proactive policing paid off in a big way over the weekend after a vehicle stop resulted in the seizure of a gun and a large quantity of drugs.

Police in Abbotsford say they managed 358 police files between 5 p.m. on Friday and 6 a.m. Monday morning, focusing primarily on road safety. Their efforts yielded dividends as they removed 23 impaired drivers and 11 excessive speeders from the road. They also issued 94 violation tickets. All told, 37 vehicles were impounded.

Officers also addressed various incidents, including thefts, frauds, suspicious vehicles and persons, domestic disputes, calls involving individuals in crisis, assisting other agencies, missing persons, swatting calls, and traffic-related issues.

One of the biggest police files among the 350-plus officers handled over the weekend involved a vehicle stop. Police initiated a traffic stop that led to the arrest of the driver and the seizure of a genuine firearm and a “substantial quantity of drugs.”
