CHILLIWACK — WorkSafeBC says an inspection report could be issued next week in response to a reported fall earlier this week at a construction site in Yarrow.

Chilliwack first responders were dispatched to the 42400 block of Yarrow Central Road Monday morning (Mar. 31) after a trades worker fell from the construction site and onto the ground below. Emergency scanner traffic indicated the fall was approximately 20 feet.

“Members of the RCMP were dispatched to a report of a fall,” RCMP spokesperson Corporal Teresa Parsons said. “My understanding is that the injured person was transported by air ambulance to hospital but I do not know the extent of their injuries. There is not believed to be any criminal element to the incident.”

An air ambulance landed at Yarrow Community School at about 8:40 a.m. and departed at roughly 9:15 a.m. for a hospital. Students from the nearby school were not outside when the ambulance landed. Around the time that the patient was being transported from a ground ambulance to a helicopter, two RCMP units and an ambulance were stationed at a construction site at Yarrow Alliance Church on Yarrow Central Road.

The patient was airlifted to hospital in stable condition, a BC EHS spokesperson told Fraser Valley Today.

Roughly two hours after the reported fall, WorkSafeBC was notified at approximately 9:30 a.m. about a serious workplace incident in the 42400 block of Yarrow Central Road in Chilliwack, according to WorkSafeBC spokesperson Yesenia Dhott. A WorkSafeBC Officer attended the scene.

While WorkSafeBC has not launched a formal investigation, its prevention team is in communication with the employer and will issue an inspection report.

An inspection report details findings of a worksite visit by a WorkSafeBC officer. It documents any points of discussion and recommendations and may include any orders or penalties that result from the visit.
