Correctional staff intercept massive haul of contraband on periphery of Agassiz prison

AGASSIZ — Correctional staff members at an Agassiz prison are being credited for intercepting and seizing contraband on the periphery of its facility estimated at over $140,000 in value.
According to a news release from Correctional Service Canada, a package containing contraband and other prohibited items was located and seized at Mountain Institution, a medium-security federal prison, last Thursday, March 27.
CSC says the contraband included meth, shatter, card readers, cell phones, charging cords, SIM cards and tobacco. The total estimated institutional value of these seizures is $140,300.
The Agassiz RCMP detachment has been notified and the institution is investigating.
