Michael de Jong will run as an independent candidate in the riding of Abbotsford-South Langley. De Jong worked initially as a lawyer before turning to politics as the age of 26 when he was elected to the Abbotsford school board. In 1994 he began a 30-year career in provincial politics as an MLA, resigning in the fall of 2024.
