CHILLIWACK – Over 2,400 customers in Chilliwack lost power Friday night due to a motor vehicle accident, but by 8:45 p.m., most of those customers have had their electricity restored.

According to BC Hydro’s dashboard, power went out at 6:55 p.m. for 2,423 customers in downtown Chilliwack, Fairfield Island, Little Mountain and Rosedale.

A motor vehicle incident contributed to the power outage. A Facebook commenter named Mikela Moore wrote in a Chilliwack-area Facebook group that a vehicle struck a pole on Hope River Road. There’s no entrapment associated with the vehicle crash, Moore said, but there is a power line across the road. Firefighters have blocked a nearby road.

Another person on Facebook said a car hit a pole, resulting in a big ball of light and an ensuing fire. Multiple police and fire personnel responded shortly thereafter.
