AGASSIZ — The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) has now announced the end of a lockdown in Mountain Institution that was put in place last week.

On March 21, a lockdown began at the medium-security prison in Agassiz so staff members could conduct an exceptional search, which was ordered to ensure the safety and security of staff and inmates at the institution.

During the search, officers were able to seize contraband such as cell phones, phone chargers, and methamphetamines.

The lockdown ended by noon on March 28. The institution has since gone back to normal operations, and visits are allowed again.

“The Correctional Service of Canada is strengthening measures to prevent the entry of contraband into its institutions in order to ensure a safe and secure environment for everyone,” said the CSC in a release. “CSC also works in partnership with the police to take action against those who attempt to have contraband brought into correctional institutions.”
